A nice reminder....

That it's not Christmas yet.
The jump on the holiday season is a bit much!
Every year it eagerly creeps in a bit sooner.
I'm holding on to fall a little longer.

Forest retreat

Doesn't that sound nice!
Few things feel better to me than being surrounded by trees.
(Even in the winter when it's more open & bare.
There's different discoveries in each season.)

But, it did inspire this so... that's something.
Going to bed early tonight!

DREAM fabric collection

Met DREAM my gender neutral baby collection for Windham Fabrics.

Packed with a playful crew of characters in a nice, neural palette.

I'm really excited about the baby milestone mat I designed
A great way to capture how baby grows month by month.
(or no baby, perhaps your pet?)

There are simple animal outline prints in two colors.

A playful alphabet print.

A sprinkling of dots....
A panel print with 4 different pillow options- perfect for a reading
chair or rocker in the nursery.

And this lovely quilt pattern to make your own Fresh Faces quilt.

Hope you enjoy sewing with my latest labor of love!

Pets is one of the newest additions to my Hello, World! board book series.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my life long love of
animals with curious little learners.

Met my pet Sophie!  She keeps me in good company
while I work in my studio painting, collaging, writing &
working on the computer.
She brightens up the day!

Seasonal Fun Fact

This one might just blow your mind!
Did you know that pumpkins are berries?
I've spent most of my life thinking they were a vegetable.
Had to pass this tidbit along!

pumpkin is technically a berry. Defined as a "simple, fleshy fruit that usually has many seeds," the word "berry" actually encompasses a whole lot more than you may have previously thought. ...

Arctic Animals

Arctic Animals is one of the new additions to my Hello, World! early learning
book series.  Let's head to the frozen Arctic & meet the animals that live there.
Brrrr, it'll be cold so don't forget your coat!

Warm Wishes

As the weather cools....

I prefer the heat but,
there are always nice moments in
the cool, crisp air.

I like to mix up seasonal art & inspiration on my walls.
This is a medley of painted florals & some embroidery work from my friend Gina.

Headed to the orchard?

If you're headed to the orchard soon check out How Do Apples Grow?
This board book part of my Hello, World! series covers the growth cycle of apples.
From seed, sapling, bloom, to fruit!
It's a fascinating process that is explained in a simple, concise way.
I know it made me look at the apple laden trees differently during my last
trip to the orchard.

Hello, World! mini books

Here's some exciting news.  The licensing director at Random House Children's Books set up a deal with Chick-fil-A to have some of my books offered with their kids meals starting August 1st.
It went so well that they'll be doing it again next August!  I've heard from friends & family that they're already gone in lots of locations.  I'm grateful for the response & hope that if you didn't get one this round you'll check back next August through late September when there will be more.

I love writing, illustrating, and learning with this series.
I'm pinching myself over how many
kids will discover Hello, World! with this opportunity.

DREAM fabric collection

I'm excited to give you a peek of my latest collection with Windham Fabrics.
Met DREAM a gender neutral baby collection filled with fresh faces & lots of fun!
This is the first time I've made a baby milestone mat.  I was thrilled to have this be
part of the collection.  Seems like babies turn into toddlers before you know it.
This is a nice way to remember each precious month.
(which I know doesn't always feel so precious but, looking back just might)

Nothing is lost...

The secret ingredient is time.
I have always been a prepared person but, I struggle with the patience part.

The late summer sounds of a symphony of cicadas.
They're not subtle which over time has grown on me.

Floated Away

Does anyone else feel like summer just floated away?  I had my busiest summer in years which was great but, didn't allow much time for play.  I'm telling my self Labor Day weekend is less of a goodbye to summer (which I love) & more of a hello to deep, long shadows & golden light.
Hope you have a great long weekend!

Luca's Birthday

My son turned 12 today!  When he was younger I made hime a special illustration
each year.  This was for age 5.  I don't do it anymore but, probably should.
(my art feels young & he's turning into a mini man)
Tonight we have dinner with his grandparents & tomorrow he gets the party poppin'
with a group of his friends.  I'm lucky to be his momma!

My son will be 12 years old tomorrow at 1:35 a.m.  I'm a Leo & I wanted him to be one too.
(I know ridiculous...)  I remember pushing so hard before midnight I was seeing stars.
This was my first parenting lesson.  He's going to be his own person & do what he wants to do.
Time for me to deal with that.
He's a Virgo on the Leo cusp which makes things more interesting.
The strangest part of my big fascination with this is that I'm not really into astrology.  I think I just like lions. (and of course him!)

National Book Lovers Day

It's National Book Lovers Day.  I love books because they offer a porthole into another world.
An opportunity to escape, discover, and learn.
That's a magical combo if you ask me!

Spot On!

Dotted things make me happy.
Polka dots, freckles, speckled leaves & even little moles.
