Time to Relax

If you celebrate Christmas I hope you had a merry one!

I have to admit... each year I breathe a sigh of relief when it's over.  I love time with family, twinkle lights & the hope of a little more kindness in the world.  But, the build up to Christmas wears me down.

*We took the tree down this morning.  I will miss extra twinkle & shine it brought to the living room.

Hello, World! SNOW

GIVEAWAY!  I waited until the first snow day to share my new Hello, World! board book SNOW.

To enter visit my Instagram page & let me know your favorite thing about snow.  Is it the tracks you find?  Sledding down a big hill?  Or staying warm and cozy inside with a cup of cocoa & a blanket?

One of my favorites things to do was to bundle up my son & head outside to build a snow friend.

I’ll pick two winners (at random) December 30th.  Stay warm!

All things birds.

Every Saturday (during the cold months) we feed the birds.  I think of it as a Saturday brunch for our feathered friends!  The feeder swings round and round becoming a carousel full of happy, hungry birds.

Also… Could this furry bird ornament from Terrain be any darn sweeter?!?

Shapes, sizes, and some sparkle! ✨

Last year I got to learn about rocks & minerals for an upcoming Hello, World! book.  Over the summer I visited my brother in Boston & he took me to the Harvard Mineralogical & Geological Museum which was spectacular!  Rows of beautiful rocks, minerals ores, and gems, in different shapes & sizes.  The even have a collection of meteorites. (Space rocks that are hurled to Earth from space!)  I never thought much about rocks or minerals but, they really are interesting & much more complex than you think at first glance.

If you don’t have a fancy museum nearby head outside, varied rocks are often found by lakes, rivers, creeks, ponds, or streams. Another great place to look for rocks is on a hike!

*If you’re just starting to collect rocks you can cheaply & easily separate & store them in an egg carton.

Treasures are fun to find!

Delight- FALL!

I'm inspired by early fall!  Finding myself wishing that October could last longer.  In the Midwest once November comes it is cold. (which is not my thing)  Until then I'll bask in the mild breeze, pretty colors and falling leaves. (which I miss once they're gone)

Can you tell I'm feeling melancholy today?

time to conjure up some magic!  (And maybe some candy too.)

Fall Tradition

Do you have a favorite kind of apple?  (I like pink lady apples which are tart & sweet!)

Since my son was a toddler we’ve visited the same orchard– Weston Red Barn every September.  We went on an overcast Saturday this year which gave the place a moody feel & and made the red apples really pop!  There’s also an assortment of animals to admire & feed.  This is a little sampling of what we saw.

Do you have a special fall tradition?

Cover Reveal

Today I’m sharing the cover reveal for Hello World! Kids’ Guides Exploring Insects –available early next year.  The Kids’ Guides picture books are packed with fascinating facts and are the ideal next step up for the Hello, World! board book fan.

There are about 1million known species, or types of insects.  In this book I cover quite a few!  Not quite one million but, rest assured there’s still a lot to discover.  If you’re interested in pre-ordering you can do so here.

Autumn Equinox

Happy first day of fall!  I enjoy the overgrown look my flowers end up with at the end of each September.  Tasseled, wild and vibrant seeming to welcome a respite from the high summer sun.  I particularly love it  when the monarch stop by usually in the late afternoon.

Hope you make time to enjoy the cooler weather & seasonal color shifts nature provides.
