Birthday

Yes, it's my Birthday. I'm 34 today & ready to admit it! It feels good & strange getting older. I'm proud of the life I'm building- Like all things it's a work in progress.

Birds Fly By

I can see the light starting to change. As summer begins to whined down the sounds of the cycadias gets louder & our evening trips to the park are cut shorter by the falling sun. This pattern in some way gets that across. Not yet fall but not early summer.

Special Letters to Me

I've always loved the alphabet. In grade school I'd doodle all over my folders & desk. In high school I had an eye chart in my locker because I thought it was so pretty & it made me smile in between academic classes that didn't. In art school I spent a semester exploring each letter. I love the up & down motion of each letter, how it all looks together, or sequenced is a new way. I think of it as a dance you do with your hand. Today I continue to incorporate it into a lot of my work. I quickly painted this over the weekend circling the letter of each member in my family. (Antonio, Jill, Luca) It pleases me when something so simple & quick turns out to be more powerful than something I spend hours or days on. I think my plan is to nestle this in our wall of photos at home.

Paint by numbers

I like to switch the art up in Luca's room at the office.
This month it's some art on loan from his Aunt Gigi.
She collects paint by number & was kind enough to let Luca enjoy some images of things he very much enjoys. (horses & dogs)

Born to Ride

Luca is obsessed with bikes. So are the girls at the studio.
For his 2nd Birthday coming up in late August he's getting a bike.
My parents are buying the helmet. We can only hope he's born to ride.
He calls them circle bikes- because the two front wheels are... Circles.
He makes me smile!

Hooray for the Fourth

Today I thought I'd show a photo of our studio at night. The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays. I love the patriotism, the birthday of our country's independence,the time of the year (summer), the parades, the bar-b-ques, the marching band music & of course the fireworks. Luca is looking forward to the big display our little town puts on every year. So on that note I'll wrap up our week! Happy 4th to you & yours.
